What Mississippi requires before you ship
Mississippi lets distributors sell prescription drugs only to buyers who are licensed or authorized to receive them, which means checking the license first. A permitted business may not sell or distribute a prescription drug, API or device to anyone unless that buyer is licensed or permitted by its own state to prescribe, dispense or possess it. For buyers in Mississippi, the rule names the allowed buyer types. No step-by-step check is written, but you cannot follow it without confirming each customer's license. When asked, the Board can require a full Mississippi customer list and 6 years of sales records within 2 working days.
Who counts as an authorized buyer: Out of state: anyone licensed or permitted by its own state to prescribe, dispense or possess prescription drugs or devices. In Mississippi: physicians, osteopaths, podiatrists and PAs licensed by the Board of Medical Licensure, licensed dentists, licensed veterinarians, and supply chain businesses permitted by the Board of Pharmacy. Optometrists and APRNs may buy as their own boards allow.
"shall not sell or distribute a prescription drug, API, or device to any individual or business unless the individual or business is licensed or permitted" Miss. Admin. Code tit. 30, pt. 3001, art. XXXII, paras. 11.C and 11.D
Records to keep
Every permitted business must keep inventories and records of each receipt and distribution of legend drugs or devices for 6 years after disposition, and the records must meet DSCSA. When asked, they must give the Board a Mississippi customer roster and sales records within 2 working days. Sales records must show the purchaser, distributor, product, quantity, invoice number, lot number, dates and returns. Records of suspect product investigations and of outdated product disposal are also kept 6 years.

Licenses a distributor needs in Mississippi
Prescription drug wholesale distributor
Every business that distributes prescription drugs, active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) or devices at wholesale in, into or from Mississippi must hold a Pharmaceutical Facility Permit, renewed every year. Permit types include manufacturer, wholesaler, virtual wholesaler, 3PL, repackager, reverse distributor and private label distributor. A distributor must be licensed in its home state, or by the FDA if that state has no license, and also in Mississippi.

Medical device and DME distributors
The Pharmaceutical Facility Permit covers wholesale distribution of prescription devices as well as drugs. Home medical equipment suppliers that rent or sell to patients at home, such as oxygen, ventilators or feeding pumps, need a Medical Equipment Supplier Permit. They may not supply equipment, legend devices or medical gas without a valid order. Anyone who buys, sells or distributes medical gases in Mississippi needs a Medical Gas Wholesaler Permit. Medical gas wholesalers may sell only to persons authorized by state law, and not directly to patients.
Controlled substances
Any business that has, ships or stores controlled substances in or into Mississippi needs a Board of Pharmacy controlled substance registration as well as a DEA registration, renewed every year. Distributors that visit customers to look into red flags must send their reports to the Board within 3 business days. If they suspend a customer's controlled substance ordering, they must tell the Board within 1 business day.

- A prescription drug wholesale distributor's trading partners "may be only authorized trading partners," which for a pharmacy means one licensed under state law (21 U.S.C. 360eee-1(c)(3)).
How WorkdID handles Mississippi accounts
WorkdID by Workd checks every Mississippi customer you sell to against the state's pharmacy and medical boards, the NPI registry, and the DEA, every day. It flags an expiration or a board action within a day of posting, and in Workd order entry it can hold the order until your compliance team clears the account. Every check is saved with the date and the board record, so your Mississippi file is ready when someone asks for it.
