What Alaska requires before you ship
Before shipping prescription drugs or devices into Alaska, a wholesale distributor must first check that the buyer holds a valid Alaska professional license that lets them supply that drug or device within their scope of practice. Wholesale distributors may not sell directly to patients or consumers.
Who counts as an authorized buyer: A buyer holding a valid license under Alaska Statutes Title 08 that covers supplying the drug or device within the scope of its practice, as described in AS 08.80.400.
"must first verify that the purchaser of the prescription drugs or devices holds a valid license under AS 08" 12 AAC 52.620(d); 12 AAC 52.685
Records to keep
Keep records of every receipt, sale and disposal of a drug, including the source's name and address, the ship-from address, the drug and quantity, and the dates. Records must be available at a central location within two working days of an inspector's request and kept for two years after the drug is disposed of.

Licenses a distributor needs in Alaska
Prescription drug wholesale distributor
A wholesale drug distributor license is needed to distribute drugs in or into Alaska. Applicants name a designated representative, attest to a self-inspection or VAWD inspection, and show their home-state license. Separate license types exist for outsourcing facilities and third-party logistics providers.

Medical device and DME distributors
The wholesale facility rules cover facilities that store or sell drugs or devices, and the customer check applies to prescription devices too. We did not find a separate license type just for device distributors.

Controlled substances
We did not confirm whether Alaska requires a separate state controlled substance registration for wholesale distributors.
Where to look up a Alaska license
- Pharmacies and pharmacy permits: Alaska Board of Pharmacy
- Physicians and other practitioners: Alaska State Medical Board
- NPI: NPPES NPI Registry
- DEA registrations: DEA Diversion Control Division
Federal rules that apply in every state
- A prescription device "is to be sold only to or on the prescription or other order of such practitioner," or to a business lawfully distributing it (21 CFR 801.109).
- A prescription drug wholesale distributor's trading partners "may be only authorized trading partners," which for a pharmacy means one licensed under state law (21 U.S.C. 360eee-1(c)(3)).
How WorkdID handles Alaska accounts
WorkdID by Workd checks every Alaska customer you sell to against the state's pharmacy and medical boards, the NPI registry, and the DEA, every day. It flags an expiration or a board action within a day of posting, and in Workd order entry it can hold the order until your compliance team clears the account. Every check is saved with the date and the board record, so your Alaska file is ready when someone asks for it.
